What Are You Reading?

Do you get time to read during school holidays?  Or before you go to sleep?  When you’re in the bath?  Is reading a non-negotiable part of your life?  Or is it something you find difficult to squeeze into your day?

You will know, from reading previous blogs, that for me reading is one of the great joys of life – up there with good food and wine!

This is what I’ve been reading over the past few weeks –

Free: Coming of Age at the End of History by Lea Ypi.   This memoir documents a childhood in the oppressive Stalinist Albanian regime and an adulthood in the tumult that followed the fall of Communism.

Arthur and George by Julian Barnes . Arthur and George grow up worlds apart in late nineteenth-century Britain: Arthur in Edinburgh, George in a small Staffordshire village. Arthur will become one of the most famous men of his age, while George remains quietly working in obscurity. Then they are suddenly brought together by The Great Wyrley Outrages.

The Corfu Trilogy by Gerald Durrell – the trilogy of books that inspired the ITV series, The Durrells.  These books are Gerry’s observations of the Durrell family’s time on sun-soaked Corfu.

But reading isn’t just for adults.  These are some recommendations from two teenage girls.

At the moment Rosie (our daughter’s friend and voracious bookworm) is reading –

Vengeance of the Pirate Queen by Tricia Levenseller.

Rosie’s loves Fantasy Romance and her favourite authors are Holly Black and Sarah J Maas.

Our daughter Sophia is reading Noughts and Crosses by the phenomenal Malorie Blackman and loving it!

Sophia’s enjoys reading murder mystery/thrillers, dystopian stories and books about friendship.

One of her favourite books is The Reckless Afterlife of Harriet Stocker by Lauren James and she loves Alice Oseman.

We’re always looking for recommendations so please comment with your favourite author or book.
